Romantic Breaks in Barcelona
In Barcelona there is no shortage of attractions and Barcelona hotels to make your holiday one to remember, but the first place to start for couples should be Las Ramblas. If you are staying in the city centre, it will be your hub for all activity.
This bustling street extends from Monument a Colon – The Columbus Monument – to Placa Catalunya with lots of street attractions to be sampled along the way. You’ll find stalls – where you can pick up a few souvenirs – street acts and some of the best examples of gothic architecture anywhere in Europe. Although the sights on the street are more than enough to grab your attention, don’t forget to look up at these grand structures.
As far as museums are concerned, there are more than few that you should consider. For art lovers, there is no place better than the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, Here you’ll find one of the widest collections of Romanesque artwork to be found anywhere. The Archaeology Museum of Catalonia, meanwhile, looks back at the romantic beginnings of the city and its heritage.
Barcelona, it has to be said, is a great city to walk around in. No matter where you set off from, you are never too far away from any of the significant sites for tourism. From the middle of the city you can stroll past world-renowned sights such as Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia cathedral. Nearby is Barcelona Pavilion – one of the best examples of early 20th century modernist architecture. You can also admire the less famous but no less interesting attractions that make Barcelona what it is.
The best thing about walking around however – aside from allowing you to get your bearings – is that it’s free. Walking in Barcelona won’t cost you a thing but it will provide hours and hours of entertainment. For couples with a love of art, history and culture, this is the best way to get around.
Owing to its position right at the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is also home to stunning beaches. Not only that but it also enjoys the fresh sea air and a pleasant seasonable climate. Barcelona is one of the few commercial centres in Europe to possess a beach of its own.
In the La Barceloneta neighbourhood you’ll find a sandy beach lined by palm trees and a large walkway. Here you take long meandering walks hand in hand, just enjoying each other’s company. In this same area, a massive selection of bars and restaurants welcome thousands of tourists every week, serving the ‘catch of the day’. They also plate up a variety of Catalonian dishes that you shouldn’t leave without tasting.
Forget any of Europe’s other cities of romance, for couples there is no place better than Barcelona. With sites of art, history and culture, whatever your tastes, you can be sure they will be catered for. All that’s left to do is enjoy your time in a simply stunning city with the one you love.
