What are some Alaskan bush Pilots that will drop you off in remote areas with alot of stuff?

Feb-18-2009 Posted under Alaska Flights
I am looking to camp in a very isolated part of Alaska. I have training thanks to the military to survive on my own. I will be brining a good amount of stuff, i.e. a tent, small stove (30Lbs), mre’s, clothing. etc. . Is there a company that can carry all this in one flight? How much would they charge?

Alaska; advice on Car Rental?

Feb-13-2009 Posted under Alaska Hotels
Taking a 2 wk. AK trip this summer.
Plan to fly into Fairbanks & work our way down… a couple days in Denali, take one or both legs of the train ride to Seward, then some time in Homer, Soldotna or Kenai, then fly home via Anchorage to Seattle.
Ideally we’d like to rent a car for Fairbanks/Denali to Anchorage, and go at our own pace. Then take the train from Anchorage to Seward, where we’d want to rent another car for the rest of the trip.Mini van, actually, as there will be at least 6 of us.
Trouble seems, a big hit in the wallet for returning the rentals to places other than the original pick up sites. We’d be doing this twice….Fairbanks to Anchorage, then Seward back to Anchorage.
It would seem there would be a fair number of visitors renting one-way. Can anyone recommend the best agencies for this?
Also, if we were to choose not to rent a car in Denali, how hard would it be to get around for groceries and such? Are there good places within walking distance, public transportation, etc? I know there are plenty of shuttles for getting around the parks, tours, and hotels, just wondering about the other stuff.
Thanks!

Is there a way to find the best air fares based on where you depart from?

Feb-10-2009 Posted under Alaska Flights
I’d love to see an interactive map, or even simply a standard listing, which shows the lowest air fares for various destinations around the world, based on your departure city. For example, I’ll enter “Anchorage, Alaska”, and the various lowest air fares will appear leaving from Anchorage to destinations around the world.

Searching for great flight fares by choosing individual destinations is very time-consuming, and I might be missing good deals. Any ideas? Thanks!
